Don't want to drill my AOI tank, but want to connect it to a sump. Think a hang on overflow is my best (if not only) option. I feel like this conversation usually goes as follows:

Person 1: "you should drill the tank, a hang on overflow will eventually fail and flood your house"

Person 2: "I have been using a hang on overflow for 1000 years, never failed!"

So which is it? Has anyone ever had an Eshopps hang on overflow fail?

I have never seen an external overflow fail that was correctly drilled and installed. I have drilled a few of my tanks over the years and never been an issue.

I think it all depends on who is doing it and whether they did a good job.

Thank you for the reply.

I guess I should have specified, I am referring to the "drill less" overflows. The type that have a U tube that goes over the rim.

I have never used one. But my Son has several tanks where he uses them. I haven't seen an issue with his tanks or heard any complaints from him. I personally wouldn't be afraid to try them, but someone with more experience than me would be a better reference.

You mean hang on back overflow, not just external. Big difference.
