I’m dying to paint the back tank blue (I know coraline will eventually creep in unless it’s scraped). But obviously black is more subtle when you consider overflow and power heads etc.

Anyone ever paint their overflows so you could have a different color tank wall?

Most of the prefabricated boxes are black so it makes sense to me. Honestly it won’t matter for long, like you said. Reminds me of when I started my tank and put a nice looking blue wave decal on the back glass. It looked nice for the first year, but then it was just purple with coralline. I actually wish I would have painted my DIY acrylic overflow because the pipes were kind of an eyesore until coralline took.

Yeah I think over thinking it.

Im just debating on having the overflow box next to the side panel (where we have a bench for up close viewing) or putting the return nozzle there & pump there

I can’t tell which would be less obstructive to viewing.. and was thinking if I painted it maybe it would be less noticeable

I don’t think you are overthinking anything! These are important decisions and now I understand the question. Pumps and equipment are not pleasant on viewing panes. I think painting it is a great idea. This will provide contrast/border the viewing area so the person doesn’t go cross-eyed trying to look at a split pane with your ugly cryptic overflow interior on one side and a beautiful reef on the other side.
