Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had problems with Algaebarn in the way they do business? So I was at my parents house about 2 weeks ago and I decided to purchased a Cade 2100 s2 from them. They are in their 80s and do not have a desktop computer. They have the special now that you get the free starter kit with it. So I purchased the tank via my phone. Moving forward a week later I got the tank and stand and I was wondering where the rocks, salt etc was at. So I called and they told me that I didn't pick the option to get the starter kit. I told them there was no option to pick when I was checking out. So the customer service representative tried on their phone and he said "you know what, you are right...you don't have a way to pick which option. So then they said that they could ship it to me but I have to pay the expedited shipping cost. Then they called back and said they wanted me to pay half of the shipping, so I did. Hour later they call back again and say they cannot get it out for delivery today but on Monday so now I have to pay full price. So I asked what about normal delivery and they said I still have to pay full price. Does this sound like I should come out the pocket with anything? They admitted that there was a glitch on their end. Thoughts?

My experience tells me they would honor the extras and ship them free of charge given the circumstances. That there is even an option to pass on the free salt and rocks is a bit silly to me.

Your best course of action is to post this on their vendor forum or at least tag them here.

only had 1 order arrive badly(shipment company damages the box and i have a bottle of yello sno that opened. they were very quick to send a replacement

You paid for the whole set to be shipped together. They didn’t do so, so IMO they shouldn’t charge you for shipping now that they realize their system glitched. How is that your fault?

I've had some bad phytoplankton and pod deliveries but I give credit to their customers service. They corrected the problem and got my orders to me.

I thought in order to get that deal, you had to pick (1) of the (4) possible kits, and then enter a promo code at checkout...

It sounds like you just added the aquarium to your cart and then checked out? without adding the setup kit and promo code?

Per the op, the option wasn't available, confirmed by an Algaebarn rep as well.

I didn't have an option to do that ordering on a phone. You can on a desktop.

Copy and paste this (or most of it) here:

@AlgaeBarn are good folks and will make it right.

They were tagged here, no great need to post elsewhere. This thread will likely get scrubbed and moved to vendor feedback shortly.

Wow..I was told I had to still pay half the shipping...they still admitted the problem and stated they have resolved the issue...lol..I was told to have a little responsibility with working with them as they are a small business and can't afford to spend money like that. Wowwwww....just wow!! They really annotated that they are giving me a free kit that is valued at $1250..so why give it away in the first place? Like this is really bugging me how they really want a customer to pay for something that the company messed up on. I'm lost for words.
