So I've seen people fragging Scolys, chalices, etc. and was wondering if anyone has previously fragged an elegance. Maybe if no one has done it yet, Kraylen could have another project/youtube video opportunity lined up

Found an article giving some suggestions (at the bottom of the article)...

Sustainable Elegance coral

Yes.

Saw the skeleton, cut tissue with a razor blade.

Many of the smaller "aussie" elegances imported are fragged before they're exported these days - note the skeleton shape.

Do you have any pictures by chance? Have you ever had any problems doing this? Did you dip with anything like revive afterwards?

Thanks for the response by the way.

I fragged several of them this week. Just make sure the candidate is healthy and dip in lugol after the cut. Aussie elegance are pretty resilient.

I don't have any pictures while fragging, but I have lots of pictures post fragging. This one was a very early Aussie Elegance import, I got it about three years ago and it was fragged pretty quickly after receiving it. Here's a couple pics:

I've heard the Aussies are hardy just hadn't seen anything about their propagation. I assume you used a wet tile saw?

Is there a size minimum on how small someone can make one of these frags? I'm asking because I might be looking for a small elegance frag in the not-so-distant future to go into the biocube.

Not really.

I've seen damaged elegance come in that "budded" itself off due to a broken skeleton and it was only about the size of a half-dollar. I wouldn't purposely frag anything less than a 2" skeleton though.

Just last week I fragged a Pink Tip and Purple Tip Elegance. Both of these were 12 inches across when open.

I used a band saw and cut up through the skeleton at it's thinnest locations. I made two cuts on each. Each frag is a more reasonably size now about 4 to 5 inches when open.

After cutting I dipped them to avoid infection. So far all looks well they are fully extending 7 days later.

i never had the stones to frag one there expensive and i dont have a wet saw.i wont try cracking one with a chizel.anyone else think that the skeleton on australian corals seems much denser than indo counterparts?
