anyone give up keeping fish for a while after fallow?

I recently lost both my fish to brook, they barley showed symptoms and both died before I could realize it. Even after the fallow I feel like taking a break from fish and keeping inverts and such. Has anyone done something similar

I have a two tanks actually with velvet and I'm in a fallow period...one is almost done and the other has another month and a half and I can definitely relate!...corals I like can be pretty pricey though...
