I know that this may seem dumb but what model of LED lights should I consider for a 5m deep SPS reef. It is similar to a swimming pool in size, be it 8m by 8m by 5m. Even thou the reef (public aquaria style) is a aquarium where money is not an issue, I still need to figure out a rough budget and feasibility of a tank of this dept. I know many people reading this post are gonna think I'm gone bonkers....

so aside from this I have sort of figuring out a list of fish/inverts....

Kessil makes some spotlight style lights at the right spectrum. I don’t remember the name/model but they are big and hung from a pro light bar.

I would directly contact Kessel and Orphek as both have commercial level lighting systems. If you have the means direct sunlight via sun tubes should also be considered as an option.

well i guess sun tubes would work? I do live in the region of where alot of prized coral is grown... good point

I would Suggest speaking to Bill Wann ( Aquarium Engineering) he has a 20,000 gallon tank his home; but I believe planning something similar. He is building my 1500 gallon DT ( sounds small when your talking that big)

Welcome to R2R

i know but I can’t find the guy?

Well, I worked at a public aquarium for several years, built and maintained some larger reef systems, and visited and talked with the people who maintain the best and largest, and I'll just say at 85K gallons, I'd think light penetration would be towards the bottom of your list of questions.
But to answer, you're going to need a bunch of 1000W MH bulbs for adequate PAR levels, and LED cannons to get an aesthetic color spectrum. Whatever the budget you have in mind, triple it.

roger, but wait how much we looking at? cause im pretty sure i can get it done for cheaper than in the US

with a "tank" that big you might get away adding a 6 line wrasse...lol
all jokes aside dang that's a big one.

are you using NSW? I hope so that's a lot of RODI
I 2nd using the sun you live in an area that grows coral see if you can use it.

yup

use the sun for coral groth and some big led for the evening. in your region 6pm it is dark. so you use the led only for a few hours after that. this high you need to much lights. the sun is perfect in your region
