anyone have a lookdown?

Saw some awesome lookdowns the other day, I was wondering if they are reef safe and how fast they grow. I would love to keep one.

Lol unless you have a few thousand gallons they will get way to big way to fast in your tank. They are reef safe in the sense that they won't eat coral but any shrimp or small fish will be fair game for these guys

I only know them because they have them on the show Tanked all the time...usually in much too small tanks.

This is spot on. +1 Big tank and love anything with some nice meat on it

they used to have them at the local aquarium when i was a kid, and i got excited to see them at my lfs. not excited enough to buy without googleing thankfully

I think they are cool something different. They are being tank raised and I would love to have a few for a while in my 180 but I know a few places with very large tanks I could donate them to when they get too big.

They also only look good In large tanks because In smaller tanks they are forever bumping Into the walls of the tank, and develop all sorts of sores and/or weird scar tissue growths around their mouths...

I know you can get them captive bred....they come fairly small, however +1 on getting to big too fast for most of our aquariums. They are actually game fish that people eat...at least in some places....

I caught one at work a month ago. (East river in Manhattan). I'v caught a lot of them in the past but they are usually half dead. This one had all it streamers and swimming upright. I brought him and he survived 3 weeks. I think he might have starved in my tank.
I also caught a bluespotted coranet last week. He wasn't in good shape.
I'll try to post some pics later of the lookdown.

How big is your tank? Why do you think he starved?

80 frag tank. At the size I got him they are skinny and look like they need to constantly eat.
There is large lfs near me that has a large display of them. It is pretty awesome to watch 10 of them swimming.
