Does anyone have a plating sponge? How do you like it? Are they hard? Have any pictures?

I bought a blue plating sponge from WWC last summer. It's done fine...hasn't seemed to grow much. I placed it and let it do it's thing. I would like to order the red one from LADD in their aquarcultured section and will next time I make an order. I'll see if I can get a pic up later.

Here's the sponge...terrible color representation from my phone and the LEDs though. Hope this helps.

I'd really love to have some cool sponges, but I really don't think my tank is old enough, I wish I could have some though.

Yep. I have the Jason Fox one from years back. Blue or purple depending on light. Here are some pics. It grows like mad (unless you treat your fish with antibiotics, then turns white - all came back though over time). This was from a year or so ago. It now has three huge sections in my 210g. Cannot find the recent pic.

Ugh that is exactly what I want, it'd be so great to see a starry blenny or dragonet perch on there looking for food.

Most sponges take a lot of food in the water column since they are filter feeders. I feed my tank with an autofeeder from a refrigerator. I have gorgonia and they love food in the water column too. I usually make my own phyto and also feed a variety of other foods too.

Isn't this the photosynthetic Blue sponge? If only someone has it in Buffalo, western New York?

Used to have a buddy that lives in Akron way, way back when he was doing his internship.

Just bag it up in a sealed tight cooler and lower it into Lake Erie & set it adrift down to the Niagara Falls, Ontario side ... I'll wait and reel it in ... lol

Very nice!

Just to open it back up, I am switching tanks over and in the process will have lots of this stuff available. It is on like every rock in my system. Huge, deep purple. Shipping is the only issue. It is quite spendy.

However, if you are in the Cincinnati area, let me know.

It does not bother anything around it really, just grows fast. I have a very highly fed system, so that could be a lot of it. I have not noticed it kill any corals, but in my aggressive gorg system, everything is trying all the time. May have and I did not notice if it was a small bit.
