Seachem Reef Dip is an iodine based coral dip and is very expensive here but I was considering ordering off Amazon along with a few other things I may need. I've heard the iodine in this dip can stop STN and help sick corals recover and also acclimate to a new tank easier. Is there any truth to this? Should I keep a bottle on hand?

iodine is more to help with healing if the coral is damaged or has just been fragged, it’s not to get bugs of your corals before adding to a new tank.

So depending what you need it for, I personally would not buy that one if it’s your only dip. Unless it’s for a damaged coral.

You could just buy iodine and also a regular coral dip, any of the main brands depending what you can get a hold off will be good.

Can you get a hold of Dettol it’s a household disinfectant, that is cheap and can be used for a general coral dip, you dilute it in some tank water, Google the amount, think it’s 0.5ml per litre of water (not in your tank)

I use Reef Primer.

Yeah, I can get Dettol! I was wary of using it since I hadn't heard of many others using it but as long as it doesn't hard the coral I'll give it a shot...the only reason I was considering the iodine dip is because I experienced STN once before and someone recommended Seachem Reef Dip but the price to purchase it here was exorbitant. I'm ordering some other stuff off Amazon (which is rare for me to do) so I'm just trying to stock up on anything I may need so it'll ship together and therefore save a little money... shipping to Bangkok can be a little expensive

I’m in the UK and many use Dettol here.

If iodine is cheaper just buy that, or if you know your corals are ill then yeah could be worth picking up but just to have in the cupboard, just incase. then no I would leave it, as said it’s not so much a coral dip, it’s more to help with illness rather then pests. I think they should rename to be honest.

I have a bottle of Seachem Reef Dip... unfortunately, I've never used it yet, so can't help you with it.

I've always had good luck with Revive coral dip, for dipping sick/damaged corals.

I use other dips for pests, but for healing corals, Revive has always been my go-to dip.

Do you know what the active ingredients are in Revive? Just curious

Not sure about the Stn part, but all I use to dip my corals is seachem reef dip. To this day (fingers crossed) only hitchhiker I got was apitasia.

There are so many dips and they all seem to come with both pros and cons. Right now I just have KCl but want to get another more commonly used dip. The reason I brought up the STN is because I'm not very experienced with acros and did have a tenuis STN. Someone commented that iodine can help save the coral sometimes but I don't know if there's any truth in that. I just like to be prepared but I'm not married to iodine or anything. If there are better products for helping ill corals I'm open to suggestions. Like I said, dips and a lot of other chemicals are a good bit more expensive here
