Hey all, I am currently using an Aqueon Model 1 sump but it does not allow me a proper skimmimg space which in turn causes my tank to be under skimmed. My tank is a 22" cube so I do not have a lot of room under the stand and do not have the luxury of a connecting fish room or space so it's pretty much as big as I can go. I am looking at replacing it with either a custom sump by life-reef or an Esshops 75 and was wondering if anyone hade experience with the Esshops sump.
The custom sump would allow me to go bigger which would give me not only a larger skimmer chamber and also allow me to have a fuge, but would be a lot more expensive (about $470 + cost of a light for fuge) while the esshops would be smaller with no fuge but still room for a larger skimmer and only about (about $120). I am planning on probably using a Tunze 9011 as the skimmer for either set up which would probably be over kill but better than under skimming.
Under normal circumstances I would opt for the custom as I certainly see more benefits to it but recently I have been in the planning/ saving $ stages for a larger tank. I was originally thinking between a 150g to a 180g 6ft set up but a recent furniture purchase put an end to the available space for something that large so I have started contemplating a 92g corner but I dont want to invest that much on a sump and then end up having to buy something else for the other tank.
The custom sump would be roughly 21"l x 16"w x 18"h which would give me about 20 to 22g of extra volume as opposed to the Esshops which would give me about 10g. I know one of the biggest obstacles of a corner tank is fitting equipment under the stand so I was wondering while I know I could fit a larger skimmer under the 92g corner, would the custome one I am considering be enough for the larger tank (even temporarily) or should I just go with the smaller less expensive sump. I am just not sure the smaller one would be beneficial and do not want to spend $ and then have to spend more to get what I should have gotten in the first place.
I would like to get the corner sooner than later but it may be a few months,
