Always thought it be cool to have both or will they attack each other?

Most likely will attack one another, my bet would be on the purple be the more aggressive of the two but every fish is different. Fire fish are best kept as one per tank.

Yea I’ve already had one for a while now has its own territory and hole so I imagine it won’t workout

Firefish do best in small groups, I like to see at least 2-3 if you have a big tank 5+. I have also seem then mixed with no issues they are a very peaceful fish.

How big of a tank do you have? I’ve seen up to 12 in the same tank but it was a 120 I think. Some stayed in one group and the rest were spread out. Very pretty though!

In my 360g , I have 5 regulars and one purple- No issue.
In my 93 cube I have one regular and one purple. Again, no issues.

I wonder if 2 firefish can be kept with a clownfish in a 15 gallon

Yes. I have two (1 reg and 1 purple) in my cube with a clown as a tankmate and 5 in a 360g with many other fish.

Every purple fire fish I've had died of dropsy. Probably coincidence but not sure if they're prone to it or not

Hmmmm...... One of mine 2 yrs old and most recent 2 mo old.
