Anyone have success keeping sps while dosing by hand?

I was but that Jebao doser made life easier. I have a 29 biocube and dose 7ml of Red Sea Alk at midnight and 3ml of cal at noon. Should all be spread out more?

Dosing 1.0-1.5 dkh twice a day seems high to me. I had a prior issue with dosing too much, couldn't seem to get cal/alk to not react and create a precipitate crust all over everything espically pumps and what not. I tried to "reset" a couple times.... large water change, measure alk and then measure alk again in a couple days, figure out what the dose should be and start dosing. However each time I started dosing it always seemed to run away- where I would dose what should have kept it stable but levels were still dropping, increase dose, drops faster...etc. Ended up getting calcium reactor which seems to have done the trick for me.

Very impressive. Out of curiosity how often are you dosing- just wonder what frequency can still get good results. I leave my tank for months at a time and everything is automated, but I'm still curious.
2 to 3 times a week.

I've heard to many mixed reviews about calcium reactors, whatever works for you though. And it does seem like a lot, that's what my tank consumes though.

I've recently doubled my alk dose because it has been running really low(5.5dkh). Calibrating and setting up my new jabao dp4 tonight and hopefully that helps me get consistent levels of alk back into the system.

Very nice! The colors are popping off my screen. What light are you running?

Thank you!
SB reeflights 16" i've been really happy with this light. It's overpowered for my little 29, i dont run it over 50% peak. i have the wifi version and ramp up and down.

I have dosed by hand for almost two years and my only complaint is it takes discipline. On the up side you don't need to do much to increase or decrease the quantity, and you never have to worry about a malfunction.

Getting more into sps, currently don't have a doser. I dose twice daily, usually 1.5dkh each dose, and around 15-20 ppm of calcium each dose. I worry this is not stable enough for sps.
You can be always on top of things, it’s part of the hobby, but it’s inevitable that things might swing a bit. I noticed that being always testing and dosing by hand and I realised that I’d spend more money on test kits… ended buying a reef factory doser x1 for all and a Autoaqua ATO duo and I only test every 2 weeks now…everything stable. I can get out of home without ( I FORGOT TO DOSE ALK!!!!)

Now I can enjoy more and test less.
