The only black sand I know of is Tahitian moon by Carib-sea I think....I have a bag of it but have not used it......I think it really makes the colors pop from the tanks I have seen it in.....You gonna switch over to it?

Well I set up another tank and i wanted to try the black sand. Is the Tahitian Moon by Carbi-Sea the same as the Indo-Pacific Black sand they have??? I'm thinking about ordering a bag of it. The tank is 20gal should i get the 10lbs or the 20lbs???
The tahitan moon is from the caribbean from what they say on thier website....So I am not sure if it is the same, if the stuff your looking at say indo-pacific then I would say it is not.....I would go with 20lbs just to be safe....

Sweet. I was looking for a dimmer setup. I always thought that the 250MH over my 29Gal was really bright. I don't keep any SPS so was looking for ways to get dimmer besides rock cliffs.

Yep i ordered the Tahitian Moon by Carbi-Sea. Haven't put it in yet the frag tank is full of Marco rocks right now. Waiting for those to cycle.

The tahitian moon sand is nice. I setup an 11g via-aqua tank once for our local club's aquarium show once. It was really pretty.
I would say the only con is detritus stands out a little more on it. Post some pics once you get it setup.

Will do i'm not going to keep any fish in it just a frag tank. So shouldn't get too dirty. But what do you guys suggest to move the sand?? A starfish???

Sea cucumber. They are more effective, as star fish are mainly surface/floating particulate detritivors. Cukes are more like earthworms so they'll cover your surface cleaning as well as a little deeper.
A bi-color blenny or rainford's gobby are good nano fish that aren't messy.

Yeah I was gonna say Cerith snails and a cuke. That way they stay in the sand and not on your frags ; )

Sand-sifting starfish, diamond goby, Nassarius Snails.(get the large vibex ones.)
Ceriths don't do sand.... not mine anyway.
My Nas snails are always in the sand though.
I don't have a seacucmber ... but if they are good at that too then I think I'll get one as well.

Jumbo ceriths do, but since its such a small tank I would stick with a cuke.
Sand sifting stars are actually not good for a sandbed as they will sift out all of your microfuana and leave your sand pretty dead in the long run. They are just very popular with aquarium stores and are always putting them in newly setup tanks.
