My Rebel XTi has a cracked sensor and will cost more to fix it than I'm willing to put into it. Was thinking about upgrading to the T3i. Anyone here using that camera? Looks like a good one and more reasonable than some of the higher end models (which are not in the cards right now). Just curious how some of you serious photography buffs feel about the T3i? I use it mainly for Reef photography but also use it for vacations and such.

Here is the link from Canon.

I have the lenses from my XTi so I'm just going to buy a body. Will not be buying from the Canon site, obviously, but was the safest link to post. Let me know your opinions. Thanks, in advance.

I have one. It didn't take me long to grow out of it and add a 5D to the mix, but it's the only camera I use for my macro shots (crop sensor > full frame for macro IMO... 5D for studio and outdoor work). I'd almost suggest the 60D if you can afford it and think you'd appreciate the extra controls. You won't get any better pictures, but it's certainly nice having that extra wheel.

Would you be using it on the HD video? The video recording takes its toll on the sensor very fast, would you be willing to buy used? If you dont mind me asking what's the shutter count/years you had it.

Thanks guys. I would definitely buy used. Don't know if I want to spend the coin on the 60D as I just don't think I would use it enough to appreciate the extra features. I have an HD video camera and a Canon P&S that takes good 1080p video as well so I doubt I would use the video all that much - but would use it some, of course.

Are you asking about the XTi I have regarding how long I've had it? Not sure what you are referring to mandm...lol. Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated. If anyone has anything else to add, I welcome your input.

Yes, how old is it and do you know how many pictures have been taken on it. the XTI is a solid camera but honestly if your willing to buy used I would search ebay for a 40d or 50d camera that would be a large upgrade from a XTI without HD video which actually hurts the camera in the long run. I would suggest looking at a used canon 40D or 50D also look for low actuations that is how many pictures have been taken on the shutter. These two cameras are able to be found for under 500 and 350ish if you look. You are going to have a world of difference in the picture also they are profesional serious cameras everything is going to be better then the XTI. Im not nocking the XTI I love mine but its all Aluminum and they are built to last large viewing screen and better sensor which is going to be big.

Skip the 60D. If anything, the T3i is every bit as good as the 60D. The next step up would be the 7D. The T3i is the newest in the Rebel line and will be an excellent choice. The 60D should have never even been made, IMO. If you want to go that route, find a well cared for, used 40D.
