The last couple days I lost my Angel and my Dotty back. Now my clown looks like this and my tang is not acting himself. Have not added anything new at all for at least two years, not even a snail because of a fluke outbreak in the tank. Are they back or is this something else? Temps in tank have been off due to freezing cold weather outside. Thanks for any help.

picture????

sorry, something went wrong before.

Does it fight with other fish? Have there been any changes to it's mood or activity levels lately?

here is another pic

It pretty much keeps to itself. The Angel was a big bully but it is now dead. The Tang is letting this clownfish pick on his fins and body. And the Tang is itching and twitching.

You’ve added NOTHING wet? Used equipment or rock, chaeto, live foods from LFS, corals... anything at all?

Absolutely nothing. No live foods, we use frozen. No new additions. Honest. Nothing.

Looking back, it was almost exactly one year since the outbreak we had of the flukes. I had posted it on here. So I stand corrected. We have not added anything for ONE year. Absolutely nothing.

Have you checked for ammonia?

My only guess would be that you were running a “pest management” situation from the start... and the recent temperature fluctuations may have lowered your fishes immune system causing them to become overwhelmed...

It does sound like a parasite, could you catch the clown or tang for a freshwater dip to look for flukes? Sometimes flukes can be resistant to praziquantel...

Will do the freshwater dip on the clown. All parameters are normal.

Any symptoms on the fish that have passed?

My husband disposed of those fish so I didn't see them. He said they were pretty eaten up when he found them so it would have been hard to tell.

Does sound like parasites. Also, clown does kind of looks like brook I had several years ago. If it is he will go quick if not treated timely. But I am shocked that you got this without adding anything.

It is flukes. So the first time we treated the tank did not eradicate them. They must have been still in there all this time and we could not see them on any of the fish. And I guess they are obviously Prazi resistant. The Tang was full of them though not visible on his surface skin. They were coming out from his body like crazy. Poor thing :(

Looks identical to the beginning stages of Brooklynella, but you said you haven’t added anything. We’ll need more pictures to confirm.

LJ Wow!! I wonder why they were surpressed all that time then seems sudden they infested again. I would love to know why now. Good knowledge to have sinc many believe that parasites are always present but surpressed.

My guess would be the temp change. It's been very consistent until last week when we had bitter cold temps outside and our tanks heater was not cutting it. We have now replaced the heater with a brand new more powerful one. I have read before that flukes do not have the ability to go dormant so they just must have been in there waiting to get strong enough to multiply with the right conditions.

Hmm. Wish you luck. How is the clown?
