Was wondering if anyone lived in Northern Virginia.. And would be willing to trade.give or sell at a decent price sps corals ?

There are alot of local stores here.. but not alot of them have any reasonable prices nore any decent sps... Quantun reefs is overpriced and they mostly just have zoas and encrusting cyphastreas or povonas and stuff..

Petco in dale city suprisingly i got most of my acros montis from lol... capitol aquarium in manassas is the same story as quantum reefs.. overpriced and they never have any good montis or acros or what not.

Anyway.. thanks

I live in Montgomery county, MD which is only about a 40min, maybe less, drive away depending on where you are in northern, VA.

Have you tried reefescape?? They have decent stuff sometimes

Well, there are lots of good deals from local reefers...... including a massive frag swap in a month (no I'm not the club's membership director :D :D )

As an aside, the best shops in No Virginia are Capital aquarium (small but high quality livestock - 20 minutes or so from the Dale City Petco) and Blue Ribbon Koi, both in Manassas.

@PacificEastAquaculture delivers UPS overnight for $20 within our region, since we are in the same UPS zone. I highly recommend a trip out to see them as well, even though they're about 2-3 hours away.

Reefescape has a poor selection of corals sadly ive been there a few times. Capitol aquarium i go too often but latetly i havent been too fond of the employees as they were rude to my 65 year old mom when i brought her over.. and while ive gotten some good corals from them.. they kinda lack in the sps department most of the time.. they have a ton of lps though.

I have been to blue koi and marine a few times... im the one who wrote the recent review to them on google... they have very nice selection but their entire sps section has pest algae growing on it and its pretty overpriced they want 75-100$ for an orange setosa that has pests on it when i got an ora setosa from petco for 55$ They also have some rainbow montis in the 250$ section lol when i got one for 30$ in petco... But price asside im not liking the pest branching algae all over their plugs and corals.

I dunno.. maybe im complaining too much but i sware the dale city petco can get better corals at better prices..

I just was hoping to find a local guy with some sps branching montis or so forth willing to trade or sell at low prices lol.

WAMAS has a lot of locals that sell a lot of fantastic SPS (anything you can imagine); all but a couple of my corals have come from locals. As for shops, I typically go to Blue Ribbon Koi or Tiki Corals in Richmond (I'm in Fredericksburg); neither has a huge selection of SPS (Tiki Corals is an exceptionally clean store).

Yea your not going to find anything special at stores around here. None of them order new acropora but wamas is the best advice. I don’t really get on there anymore but hopefully will have to when I have my tank running well. I like to support capital aquarium because i know Zack pretty well and tiki corals is where I unload all my frags when I sell big lots, their store is nice and clean but I don’t get down there often. It’s nice to have a store that will BUY nice coral frags from hobbiests.
Reef escape is horrible imo. Pale corals and crazy fish prices because they try and qt them somewhat. Problem is they never have what is in their tanks. Everything is always on hold or whatever. Also their hours are horrible and I have tried to buy from them to support them but they made it WAY to hard to buy normal livestock when I ever even get the chance to go there.
Quantum reef sps prices are Obsurd when he buys colonies but hey, at least he is actually buying stock for his store! The rest won’t even buy anything other than fish. He also stocks the necessities that we need for our tanks so I can mostly go there if I can’t wait for an online order.
Brk is the only store around selling acro fragments and they are overpriced and not that healthy. But most are from old indo colonies they had sitting so if you choose right they will be colorful. Any store you go to your risking pests because of how much stuff goes through them and most of it is from other hobbiests. Monti nudi are probably in most stores around here at least in one tank each store. Bet it’s like that a lot of places.
To sum it up, pay for a wamas subscription, there are hundreds of great reefers around the dc area who know what they are doing!
