Anyone know what this is? It looks like snot growing on a few of my live rocks. It started out on one rock. I did a fresh water scrub and it went away for about a month. Now it is back and jumped to another rock. I have seen hermits, emerald craps, and snails eating on it from time to time. Is it bad? How do I get rid of it?

Looks like a sponge, hard to point out the right one without a more focus picture

Is it growing in the shade or in the light? How old is the tank?

Does look to be sponge; but I typically see them in shady spots or in my sump. Assuming it is sponge, nothing to worry about. It is actually a sign of good tank health.

Picture with the rock with a shell, it starts out in shade under the rock and then grows up into the light and across the rock. The other pictures; it was growing under another rock, when I did a water change it got exposed to the lighted areas. Will it continue to take over the tank? or stay on a couple rocks. The tank is about year and half old. Broke it down 2 months ago to move; but maintained all rocks, sand, etc..

will it stay fungus looking or will it firm up like the sponges you buy in an Art store?

Why would you scrub something off your rock if you had no idea what it was? Most hitchhikers are a good thing.

Thought it might be some decaying food trapped in the holes of the rock.
