I’m not sure if it is red turf algae or red cyano. It is NOT on the sandbed in low flow areas it is on the rock and it’s covering some of my zoas killing them. We brush it off and it comes right back. I didn’t take a video but I think from the stills you can see how long it is and how it flaps in the current. I’ve tried turning off all white lights, water chemistry is all within normal limits
pH 8.2
dKH 8
Salinity 1.025
Nitrates 2-5
PO4 0.01
Ca+ 400
Mg - waiting for new test kit

Water changes don’t affect it. Unsure how to proceed.
Thank you!

It looks a bit like Cyanobacteria, although a few pictures are blurred, as a ‘general guide’ if you can blow It off with a turkey baster is cyano

Looks like Cyano to me. And I have encountered it when something changes in my tank. Like when my nutrients go from high to low or vice versa. Did you have anything change recently ?
if you want to resolve it the chemical way, then chemiclean does a good job. But it is antibacterial and will kill some good bacteria. I have used it in the past and have not seen any issues.
Otherwise you can try stabilize your system and try a 3 day blackout. That seems to have worked for many.

Ok that is what we thought it was but I was a little confused when I read up on it because it says it grows on the sand in low flow zones.
I have Chemiclean but haven’t ever tried it. Do I need to add an air stone or watch my skimmer or run carbon after or anything? I’m not willing to do a blackout as I have too many corals that need the light. My parameters have been extremely stable however several months ago we did treat the entire system with Ruby Reef Rally because of some unknown disease that was killing off my fish. The Rally killed off all my pods and I had millions of them, and it did eradicate whatever was killing my fish

Yep, your skimmer will go berserk, and you'll need to keep aeration up so I pull my collection cup off and just it boil over into the sump. It'll be foamy for a week. After a couple days do a big water change, add GAC, and try to run a skimmer but it'll take a while before the skimmer works normally. I have to raise mine up a few inches for a couple weeks.
