Hey guys. I've got this weird slimy stuff growing in my fuge. It tends to build up around the waterline and hang off the rock in there. At this point I think it's either dino or some kind of clear cyno if that's even a thing. Whatever it is it's definitely not common from what I can tell. In the attached picture it's hard to tell but there's white spots inside the clearish goo. I thought it was an egg mat when I first found it but there's nothing living in the fuge and it keeps coming back. Any ideas on what it is and how to kill it would be great. So far it's not in my DT which leads me to believe it likes low flow.

Nope no bio pellets. GFO and carbon both in reactors.

Yup I'm dosing vodka. Have been for about three weeks now. My nitrates where 4ppm and now are down to 1ppm at 1ml of vodka for about 70 gallons of water volume so I'm planning on leaving that as my maintenance dose.

Thats your issue. You are carbon dosing. How much are you dosing? How much of this slime is in your tank?

My guess, ignorant guess, is a bacterial bloom. If so, it's been suggested to stop all organic carbon dosing.

It is a bacterial bloom and its from carbon dosing, cooking near your tank or having plug in air fresheners near your tank believe it or not. You will need to lower or stop your dosing, remove any air fresheners or keep a cover on your tank when cooking. The best way to get rid of this is a 5ml per 10 gallon dose of Dr. Tim's Waste Away every other day for 14 days, followed by a maintenance dose of 1ml per gallon per week.

I don't cook or have plug in air fresheners near my tank. I'm also not convinced it's from carbon dosing. There's honestly none in my display tank at all. It's just in my aquafuge which I set up a week ago. Also today it's just one little string in there. The big blob is gone and so far none has come back around the rim of the fuge. If it comes back soon I'll definitely stop the carbon dosing but for the moment it seems to be going away.
I'm newer to the reef side of things but doesn't an overdose of carbon normally cause a bacterial bloom as in hazy water more so than that goopy stuff?

this is not from carbon dosing. that crap is hard as a rock and coats surfaces.

i had a similar bacteria invade my system after i cut off peroxide dosing. white, slimey, spiderwebby crap.

took a couple weeks to go away.

some state perfume or whatever. i dont run glade or anything so i assumed the nyquil vaporizer i run in our rooms.

however, we still run it and it hasnt come back.

this is no way a carbon dosing bacteria.

It absolutely can be. Its exactly what caused mine. Mine was not hard. It's stringy and very sticky, but comes off rocks and walls with no effort.

Maybe I misread your post. Are you saying the carbon dosed bacteria is hard?

oh yeah. cut off your return pump and watch the paper machet cover your sump.
its not "hard". its just yellowish and attaches to surfaces. it does not form web-like slimey balls with bubbles.

why do you think pellets have to tumble?

I've read that too, however in my case, its the only thing that could have caused it.

possible. just not my experience.

that crap attaches to surfaces with no bubbles and matts the system. at least thats what happened when i carbon dosed.

my new system has never carbon dosed, so i dont get that trash anymore.

In my case I see what looks like the start of Dino on a piece of my rock. I think it may have come in on a frag I mounted there. The Zoas nearby don't look super happy either so today I started a course of peroxide dosing to try and stop it before it takes hold. I was also considering perhaps what's in my fuge could be extreme Dino do to a lack of flow perhaps? It does seem to be light sensitive.
