Did you do a major water change with new salt?

When I changed brands, I did about a gallon water change about every 7-10 days on my BC29, I had read various threads and the opinions seem to vary, so I didn't take the chance.

He coral pro has a much higher Alk. What was your Alk before the water change. What is it now?

What percentage of water did you change?

I also use coral pro but my Alk is currently 8.4. If I do a water change it goes up but I only do a 10-20 % change so it doesn't rise to much.

i have forgot ill test my alk when i go to work today and get back with you but if i rmmber right it was 9 DKH and i only do 10 gal water changes

Mixing saltwater correctly? Using RO/DI water for saltwater mixing?
How long has tank been up? Any other changes recently?
IMO with such a small water volume in the BC29 any little thing seems to throw the balance off, believe me I know

Changing 1/3 of the water is enough to upset things. you'd probably shocked (disgusted) if you tested your lfs water.

yes ma'm i work at a salt water fish store and nun of us know the prob

LFS being Live Fish Store.

He was saying you'd be surprised at the quality of an LFS water and what the TDS might be. Since you work there, what's the TDS? Also, if your alk was low before a 1/3 water change could quickly raise it?

I raise my alk as much as 2dkh at one time, and it doesn't upset any of my lps.
Is that a frogspawn in the picture? I have one that is very sensitive, he has to be in the perfect spot to open. If I do a water change and he doesn't like how I did it, he closes up and stays closed for a while. No other coral in my tank reacts the way he does. Are all of your corals closed?

i added more corals and tbey seem to be fine so its just my 2 corals not opening my alk at 14

Changing 10 gallons is a lot on a BC29. They hold 29 gallons if there is nothing in the tank and the sump is completely full. Water displacement from rock, sand, equipment, etc. means you more than likely have closer to 20 gallons. IMO a ~50% change with new salt is going to cause issues.

im not going to do a water change untill my alk goes down a lil bit

not any more just my corals i had before i switched salt all my other corals are always open and amazing i am about to get ride of the ones i had before and just start all over with my new corals
