Sounds like the compressor keeps stopping and starting.

is it coming on fully then shutting off? is it on its own temp sensor? how long is the interval for the start and stop?

take the housing apart so you can see all of the parts. If it is coming on and running for 30 seconds or so then shutting off, it may have a pressure sensor on the lines that kills it if the pressure is not as it is supposed to be. If it has the ports on it, I have a set of gauges that can read the pressures on the high and low side.

No ports. Sealed system.

Today I've been working on changing the plumbing to one pump to feed my display, chiller and manifold. Hopefully one mag18 won't make as much heat as a mag9.5 plus a mag12.

Tomorrow I'll call jbj and see what my options are.

And there is why your chiller runs all the time, and why you need to turn it down now, while it's not running. just 3 degrees will make a massive difference.

Sounds like the compressor could be going out on thermal. Make sure the coil is clean, see if the compressor is hot. If there are not any ports then try and see if you can find any oil, that would indicate a refrigerant leak. I think someone in the club works on small appliances, I deal with residential and commercial units but can stop by just shoot me a pm.

Choosing another brand pump will go a long way in solving your heat issues IMO Mag pumps are notrious for adding heat to the aquarium as they run very hot.
I kept my house at 78 and even with Halides (When i ran them) my tank did not have any heat issues and stayed between 76 and 78 degrees. It also helps to have only one pump running all your system.
Bill

Last months elec bill was almost $400 if I run it any lower ill be broke.

Yes bill Replacing the pump is my 1st priority when I get a job. I've been meaning to run them on one pump a while now. This just pushed my hand.

Last year during the winter the chiller keeps running because of 3 mag pumps. Got a new skimmer so that got rid of one and yesterday I got rid of another.

Superpro let me call jbj 1st see what they say then I'll decide it to open it up.

Sounds like I need to ck your a/c, that's way too high. Maybe $300 but $400 is way off.

Two story house two units running. The downstairs has a slow leak need to refill every year. But planning to replace it later this year.

Wow. Our June bill was about $280. Our house is about 2500 sq.ft and we kept it at 74 all day. I saved $100 from last June with the leds and ran the house cooler and it was hotter. Go figure.

I got around 2000 and my bill hasn't been over $170 and I keep mine set at 70 cause I don't have the chiller set up.
