Anyone Modified AE Equipment?

I bought a used AE sulfur reactor that has some design problems. Mainly the access is far too small and I cannot easily (or even with difficulty) get the media in or out; plus the effluent port is also too small and easily clogs with bacterial mulm. Since these things are PVC, I am assuming I can cut off the existing top and solvent weld a flange. It's probably a 'reach', but curious if anyone has modiifed any AE gear?

I'm going to give it a shot. Remove the existing top, solvent weld on a flange and a new bolted top.
