Anyone moved a 678 pound aquarium downstairs

Hello all,
I’ve been out of the reef world for fifteen years but I’m back and so excited.
I’m building out a rec room downstairs just for the tank.
I want an innovative marine 200 Peninsula Aquarium but it weighs 678 pounds.
Anyone have a thread or video on how this has been done before?
A large peninsula is my dream tank

I am actually getting ready to do the same thing......make sure you have lots of people and strong suction cups to hold the tank. Other than that, I don't know of anything that would help....if you come up with something let me know lol.

Like anything, slow and steady. Enlist some strong friends or movers. Getting a good grip is the key element so suction cups would help a ton.

I have an IM 200 ext that I put in my basement. Ended up hiring insured movers. Took 5 of them and me to get it down there. Definitely get quality suction cups to say the least.

Ask your local Reef Club members which Locally Owned to Moving Company moves Aquariums. Had a 120 Gallon, with bad knees, and in my late 60’s it wasn’t going to be me or my old friends. Since I wasn’t too particular about the time, they came over and did it cheap, when they had another move nearby.

The tank probably weighs about half that...no way does the tank weigh that much. My 300 gallon isn't even that heavy

This. The weight is everything palletized/crated. The tank itself is more like 250-300lbs as IM glass is 3/4, so I'm leaning closer to +-300lbs. 4-6 guys with suction cups should be able to manhandle it down a flight of stairs without breakage.

Granted the weight is "packaged weight". However, I'd be surprised if the pallet weighed 300 lbs. They also list the stand weight of 115lbs separately. Tank is made from 3/4" glass so I have to believe their listed weight is darn near close.

I built a 4"x4"x9' skid frame for my 300g tank, 10 of us slid i down my basement stairs on that frame, then put it on roller dollies and positioned it, then we lifted it onto the stand.

There are companies that provide this service for you, but I like doing everything myself and I am not afraid to call on my friends for assistance.

Give ya an idea, I have a 30+ yr old Oceanic 300g 8foot tank, dimensions are 96x31x24 inches. It weighs nearly 1000lbs empty, bottom is 3/4 inch thick glass,
sides are 5/8ths inch thick.

A standard 42x40 pallet weights 40-60 lbs. So a crate could be double to triple.

My 220g by itself (no water or stand or anything) is 700lbs

3/4” walls and 1” bottom

I have a powered stairclimber. Moved a ~15 ft^3 chest freezer to the basement and some other stuff but no tanks yet. You might be able to rent one locally.

Mine was 650 pounds dry.
One strong guy in each corner is all it took for us.
I paid each $100. Took them 30 minutes tops.

Mine was moved by an Licensed, Insured, Bonded Company for $125. Three Guys, one on each end and one behind the guy on the Lower end guiding and supporting him, so the Aquarium didn’t push him over. They Moved it on a Homemade, Wood Base, I made for the used Aquarium.

yeah agree if glass at 3/4” will be between 3-400lbs. Make sure you get 4-6 suction cups. Bigger issue will be maneuvering around corners etc. and if you have carpets to slide rest as needed. It will take 4-6 guys to get it down.

Well, I guess moving that tank downstairs is better than moving it UPstairs! Haha.

The tank was 460lbs dry weight 3/4" glass. I moved a 300g aequeon with my buddy and it felt like 1/2 the weight. It's a real pita to move. I'm plumbing in a grow out tank to this and I'm likely going acrylic so I don't have to hire movers again lol.

I’ve done a 180gallon down the steps with two people. It’s super heavy but you can carefully slide them down on a movers blanket, then slide it over to the stand. As others said it can’t way that much. A couple of friends for help and you’ll be fine. I’ve actually slid a few down the steps into my rec room through the years… always seems daunting but always gets done, lol.
