Anyone never had luck with the Xenia?

I was gifted a Xenia frag. It shrank after 2 days. Hasn't recovered yet.

Then I bought another frag on LA. Shrank too.

I tried moving them around. Low flow. High flow. Low light. High light. Still no reactions.

Meanwhile, the Kenya tree, Zoas, Toadstool, Birdsnest, and hell yeah even the Ricordea, are all doing well!

What the heck is going on with the Xenia?

They're usually medium light, medium flow, and typically fine with similar conditions as other softies. In my experience with it, it did take a while before it came "out of hiding," so to speak.

Hi, I have a Xenia which is doing fine, even though it’s next to my quad core anemone which I don’t mind as it keeps it in check, what I mean is it stops it from spreading too much! they are renowned to spread quite a bit and some people will have them on a rock/island so you can keep an eye on it. The positioning for me I found was they like it any position low, mid or high, mine is set high with bright light as long as they have a gentle flow, they tend to pulse more when the flow isn’t strong. Hope that helps

Hard to kill Xenia’s. They are like weeds! A year from now you will be saying the opposite and gifting it to others like me lol!

Same here. Looked nice at the frag swap. Got in home and it shrunked forever. I moved it to a different spot and it finally opened again but never expanded like how I first saw it. I wish I knew....

What lighting was frag under where it came? I think my Xenia did shrink up some for a while putting them under my led’s. They were under t5s at Reef shop.
Just a thought that could be issue ?

When I grew xenia many years ago ( x. elongata and x. umbellata), it LOVED the light and moderate flow. I had some growing very close to a MH bulb..like 6" away. It also liked higher calcium, at least that seemed to make it pulse for me. It was the second coral I ever owned.

When I tried xenia in my other setup which had PC bulbs, it never came around and died, while all the other weeds like mushrooms, colt and green nepthia do fine.
