Hey Everyone,

So I’m about to finish up my second sons bedroom which was previously my office. Part of that negotiation was my wife agreeing to putting a frag tank in my basement office. In thinking about it, instead of worrying about two separate tank systems I was thinking it may be better just to plumb a smaller system into my current tank. My sump and return pump are oversized for my current 90 gallon system. It seems like it would be cost effective as well as save time on cycling. Anyone go this route ? The tank would fit into a corner in between a wall and my display so it would not be very big tank. I’m thinking 18”x18”x8” or 20”x20”x8”. Should I be looking into a different style of lighting for such a shallow tank ?

Any input is appreciated !

yep, I have that exact size plumbed to my main display. Works great, because I don't have to worry about topping off and dosing a second tank.

I run 24” but my frag tank is 24x24” works perfect but I think I’m going to switch to the LED aquatic light for heat and lower operating costs.

I run AI Hydra 32s with Reef Brite XHOs to supplement, the reef Brites are supposed to work very similar to T5s from what I have read.

Leds will never match t5s but that’s a different thread.

Plumbing in second tank especially that small is no proble

I plumb all my frag systems together for the same reasons. Simple testing and simple dosing make it as easy as a single display. Plus I can move coral from system to system and it is all the exact same water!

Here's a photo from a while back when i added the low boy on the right :)

Looks awesome !

yup, started as a 40g, then two. Now I have a 330g tank and a 320g frag tank all on the same sump.
