I have a 180 gallon - which is at the bottom end of a large tank. I have an ATS and refugium with macro and I made a dual diy airstone downflow skimmer. The skimmers have been running for about 18 months and I'm on my second air pump. The skimmers worked great when I have a new air pump and I make my own wood air stones. The first pump failed in less than a year, so I bought an industrial air pump and it's starting to fail in less than a year. Anyway, for some time the skimmers haven't been doing much and I might just scrap them.

Who out there is running a large tank without a skimmer and how?

Not quite the same size, but I run my 120 gallon system with no skimmer. My only filtration is filter socks and a refugium.

not that I am now but I plan to run my 150-350G in the future without a skimmer. I volunteered at a place that had a 2500G ran just off a ats and two coral grow out tanks.
