Anyone running a Shadow Overflow & Skimz sump??

I tried to use a shadow on my new build, though not with a skimz sump. It was broken. It was extremely loud and I got no help from the company.

My synergy reef shadow was terrible. I took it off and it's on my shelf now and my advice is to replace it before you set up the tank!

Totally untrue and you never even owned our product. You are just trolling anyone who asks about our product. We help all of our customers.

Not to mention that you are totally off topic with what the OP asked. Please refrain from trolling R2R members and their posts.

OP was asking about plumbing a shadow, I answered with my experience.

I'm sorry you dont want the truth about your product posted, but that's on you. You made and sold this thing and you choose not to support your customers. I have every right to offer my opinion and I will continue to do so.

As far as off topic, your continued attacks on me are what is off topic.

OP, this is what you get when you run a shadow. Noise fron the overflow and noise from the manufacturer. As for plumbing, I ran a bean style in mine and was not able to get it to run properly.

Thank you. I had it plumbed up before to a built in overflow from the old tank and I think they were 1.5” maybe? I can’t remember.

I’m mainly just trying to get pictures of people’s pipe setup for their system so I can get an idea for how mine will be once I get the tank up and the box installed. SCA is going to customize a 120 for me to fit a synergy box but I’ve never used an overflow like this before.

Gotcha. If they are 1.5" you can plumb it up without reducing to 1". A lot of skimz sumps have 1" drains so that's why I asked. Either way we can help you if you need anything. SCA drills a lot of aquariums for our overflows so they will set you up right. Great tanks.

It could be a 1” drain.. I can’t remember off the top of my head.. been a little while since I originally plumbed it previously. It’s a Skimz UP34 sump.

Ok. Either way you will be fine with a 120.

I have the shadow overflow and the skimz UP34 sump. I will say I had to modify the U pipes in the overflow to get it to work properly and silently. You also HAVE to have a gate valve on your full siphon drain in order to dial it in to your return pump capabilities. Unfortunately I did not know if I could reduce the plumbing to 1” at the top of the sump so I just took the pre-plumbed fitting off the sump and ran my 1.5” pipes down below water level. Once you get it fine tuned, it’s a fantastic setup and so quiet. My wave pumps are actually louder than my system.

2 questions...

1. You removed the preinstalled pipes on the sump? Didn’t know you could do that.

2. Why do you have your ATO line going into the sock chamber? I always thought it should be in your return chamber? Unless you’re using it for something different

Yes I removed them. They were 1” and the Shadow is 1.5”. The was my first bean animal so I didn’t want to choke the main siphon by reducing it. In hindsight, I think you could. There no downside to removing the ore installed pipes other than some salt creep on the lid.

I’ve got my ATO going into my sock chamber because my salinity probe is in the next chamber. I want to be alerted if my ATO doesn’t shut off and my salinity drops below range.
