I am looking for some review on these pumps. How much more wide is the flow compared to their 6100 style pumps with the small outlet?

I replaced a pair of 6105's (with 6205 shrouds for wider flow) with a pair of 6095's. I was running the 6105's at lower settings. I prefer the 6095's. They are much smaller and are completely silent. The flow is just about as wide as the 6205 shrouds.

I'm glad to hear you liked the 6095 better. Out of curiosity; might try adding the tunze to my vortechs, I'm sure both perform great. Anyone out there using a combination of pumps?

I run 2-6205, 2-6105 and 2 MP 40ES.

i like the 'wider' flow of the vortechs, the tunzes seem to carry the flow further if that makes sense, there is a word for it but I cant think of it.

I think I prefer the Vortech for those acros that are closer to where the pump is mounted. i have to place my SPS further away from where the Tunzes are mounted.

The Vortech are a much cleaner look too of course. I thinking of selling the 2-6105s and adding 2 more MP40's but more for asthetics

Ok, now I might have to rethink my whole plan

Theres no point in selling a possibly better product for a price that MIGHT bring me two 6095's and a controller if they arent producing "better" flow for acros

I had thought of using the sticky pads that come with the vortechs for wire management on the Tunze's

The hardest thing for me to overcome was that wires would be in my tank but with good placement and those pads I was thinking I could still maintain a cleaner look and make my flow more diverse.

My back wall on my 40 breeder is also painted black so placing them on the back corners and aiming them across the tank would make them seem less intrusive.

These are just some of the ideas I was throwing around in my head.

Well I've been thinking about replacing my MP60 with a few tunze pumps. The MP60 rocks, I run it at 65% or so. It's just a bit too noisy for my taste. I was thinking about adding 2 6095's.

Currently running 2 6025's and an MP40. My mp40 took a dive a month or so ago and I havent gotten around to sending it in. Will probably go with the Tunze controllable line on the next tank. Double the warranty, and I dont find the sticky cable tie pads and exterior wire on the Vortech to be that less conspicuous than a single wire in the tank.

This seems like one of the those situations where I won't know until I try the Tunze line hands on! Hopefully someone in my local club has a set that I can checkout

There are pros and cons when comparing tunze and vortech..
Iv'e tested out to remove the mp40 and replacing it with the tunze +multicontroller

My corals where not as open and fat as before. (same spot, etc.)
Bring in the vortech again and after two days, my corals were just noticible better. Also my wife said the same..

The Fish are having much fun to swim against the stream when its currently low.

I think you cannot compare vortech vs. Tunze as Long they have no reefcrest Mode..

The Look of the Pumps are.. Some like more in the water and nothing outside the tank, some like the minimalistic look inside when going with vortech..

I just ordered the mp60 after see it live on interzoo for my new 600L tank. Will see how much noise appears when driving it on 30% :)

Cheers, Flow

If you haven't already, I'd recommend you check out Tunze's "Flow vs Turbulence" video at the top of this page. (Also inline at the bottom of this message.)

They illustrate the flow patterns you're looking for and visually compare the performance of competitive pumps. This is a good start for the visual comparison as well as for the information provided.

Wow...for the price on that MP60 (pushing $800) that'll be a bunch of Tunze's! Between the much higher build quality and better flexibility (pump mount and controller) I think you'll be quite impressed. You may also still have some money left from the sale of the MP60! :)

BTW, what is the size of your tank and what are its dimensions?

Not too impressed with the build quality on my MP40w's either. They already spend most of their time in a bucket after being replaced purely on performance by Tunze 6045's, but after drafting one back into service temporarily it broke down with a swollen wet-side magnet. Nevermind that when the wet side seized that it dropped onto some of my coral. Nice "feature". My other one's motor has developed a whine when running at high speed. Vortech's seem expensive and fragile to me.

Most of Tunze's controllers are programable in detail and don't lock you into any particular mode. Are you familiar with the "storm mode" on some of their controllers?

Check this one out, for example.

MP60's are quite expensive to buy only to run at minimum speed....wow! Wouldn't another pump be a better fit?

The tank is 48x30x24 and I run the MP60 at around 65-70%. I really love the pump but it's just a bit too noisy, I want to move my entertainment area near the tank.
