I have a lot of stressed Acroporas that are slowly dying. I noticed that my school of green chromis pick on the Acropora tissue?
I don't know if they are eating the dead acro's flesh or eating the entire colony. They are eating the flesh not just picking at the skeleton.

I agree they are probably eating the dead flesh. Are all your acros dying?

Unfortunately all my acroporas are on their way out. The biggest colonies I have wouldn't fit in a five gallon bucket. I have had them for many years. Almost all of the colonies are from one frag I got over ten years ago.
I moved and they didn't like it at all. The corals without polyp extension are the ones that are dying faster. I think my tank is going to be a lps reef in the future....

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I would agree that the chromis are just picking at the dead/dying tissue. Did you ever find out what the source of the problem was? Alk swing, or just the stress from moving & rapid acclimation?

Yea it had to be something in the move. I have had a similar experience with these corals and they recovered in my last move, but this is worse. I never lost entire colonies like this.

One thing is for sure chromis can be a problem I had them host my sps colonies like they were clown fish they go in the big colonies for hide out and they sleep in them when they do that they keep rubbing on the acros poking them with their tails and because of that the polyps don't come out and the colony is not eating so its going to slow death then they move to the next one . Also some corals might be sliming to get them out a big colony 12x12 can nuke a whole tank with the stress slime and then the other sps go into shock
Big water changes will stop it but u need to cut all the dieing colonies first save some frags and dump the rest
