How do you negotiate price? It's a wholesale kind of transaction so while I have an idea of what they may be worth retail, I don't know how much markup they would expect to put on them.
Anyone sell frags to LFS?

I often wondered this. If the lfs would give me 1/8 of what they charge I would be happy. Only because they want $50 for a small rock of gsp.

Most stores get a 2-3 time markup so if you find a store that will deal with you then you will get around half to a third of retail. Also depending on what your selling the local retail price may be a little lower than the online price. I've never had a store that would give me cash most I've dealt with will only do store credit

i do have one lfs that do 10 buck per bags doesn't matter what type of corals or sizes. if there three corals in one bag that consider as one. so what i do is frag em up as many as i can and drop em off. there are other lfs that will give u more in store credit than cash and i have to come prepare to get insulted on the lowball offer which is why i like selling to local reefer.

Remember most LFS do not care about named corals as do most of their customers. The average hobbyist laughs at prices for prices of single polyps. Most are looking for big and movement. At least that is what it was like when I was working at a LFS
LFS will buy corals from you, but it is usually not the high end corals. They will purchase the more common pieces for 1/3 retail price or less. Why not post your corals on a local forum and meet some local reefers? It is much more time consuming, but you will get a better price for your coral.

One of my LFS will give me 25% of their asking price and another will do 50% and it is usually store credit. I often will also take very common zoas ie eagle eyes, dragon eyes, etc and let them grow out to colony size on a rock then trade in the rock for new live rock.
One store give me 1/3 of retail for store credit. I make sure to give them retail sized mini colonies and they are selective in what they want and dont always want everything I have. It's always nice to go shopping when you have a $200 store credit.
Recently I did a bunch of fragging and earned only $160 at the store but sold SPS starter frag packs from home, local pick up only, and earned over $500.

Thank you all. That is about what I expected, 1/2 to 1/3 retail. I wouldn't be surprised if that was also in the form of store credit either, which actually reduces their cost the by another 1/2 to 2/3, but that's ok.
I actually am selling pretty low end no name stuff, just clear out my tank for better. I know they will be able to sell this stuff easily.
They already get quite a bit of their stock from local hobbyists and it is usually mid-range stuff that they often mark up too much.
Maybe I will consider selling to locals directly when I get some better quality corals to the point of fragging.
