Hey all,

A recent post got me thinking. So with all the newest latest and greatest named corals, does anyone still have the classic corals? By that I mean what some of us old schoolers remember in a tank like as follows:

Purple monti cap
Blue monti Digi
A. Valida
True Maze Brain Coral (platygyra with no or minimal closed lines)
Turbinaria
Purple Stag
Blue Pulsing Xenia (haven’t seen the pulsing one in a while)
Bright Pink Montipora Nodosa (I see liveaquaria has this in stock but purple) Only seen the bright pink once and that was 2005

I’m sure I’m forgetting some but just haven’t seen them in many tanks on here.

*Note this is not a WTB as my tank is nowhere near ready in my opinion but was simply curious

Im a bit partial to the tried and true. Been looking for a pink stylo for a while. I would add that to the list.

I've actually been looking for many of those for a while. I've put out a few posts on fb and my local club. Seems no one has any or wants to trade or sell...
Definitely. The hardest by far for me is the True Maze. I have a skeleton of an old colony (picked up by a relative) but haven’t seen it in the trade in years

Didn’t think of that one. Definitely falls into the classics. Feel free to post what your missing nowadays to expand the list. May get you in contact with someone here willing to share

I have a few of those still in my tanks.

Purple Monti cap- I would add Red monti cap as well.

Blue Digi

Purple Stag

True Maze Brain Coral

They have been in with me for over a decade and I keep them trimmed pretty small because I like them but don't want to devote much space.

Most live on the back of my rock work where they can be only be seen from left or right pane.

The stag was 1.5'x1.5' about a year ago. I didn't know it was hard to find now and listed 6" pieces/10+ branches for $50 each when I wanted to reduce its tank foot print. All were gone with in an hour.

The purple at one point was 1' across and 5-6 levels. Over the years I have given away 100+ peices to local reefers. its now only about 4-5" and a single plate.

Edit: Been searching for pink stylo locally for about 5 years so far nothing.

Got any pics you want to share? Would love to see the brain. That’s one of my bucket list corals

If I get some time tonight, I'll try to snap a pic of it. The brain is hard to see/photograph as its in the back of a cave with a hole above for light. So have to take a cross shot, angled thick acrylic screws with photos, through the dark.

Quite a few when I started back up. I wanted to make sure to get a few of the classics.

The torts, efflos, millis, stags, valida's, Green Slimer, sand doller, a couple of the older ORA pieces. Red cap, frogspawn, and of course Pulsing Red Sea Xenia (My favorite of all the Xenias). Still a few more I need to track down like the old sunset monti, Purple Monster, Purple Cap, undata, spongodies, there was this one brown cap that used to have big jiggly green polyps (can't remember if it had a name), and of course my favorite monti of all time.. and oh so hard to find a legit one.. a proper Lyng Sy Cap.

also this one.. which I can't remember the name of anymore either -

#memories lol

Can't help with the ID on the monti there but definitely. I know one of my others is the Efflo, and the Oregon Tort. The oregon tort seems to be relatively easy to come by still and I know BattleCorals has an Efflo available

YES! My favorites are the classics. Oregon tort(!), green/blue/purple slimers, PC rainbow, strawberry shortcake, pink lemonade, red planet, etc. Sure, I like some of the new hotness as well, but I'm not a collector. I like colonies and there's only so much room in any tank for nice colonies. Honestly, I don't have much desire to get any more corals except for an LPS or two. I'm really happy with my current assemblage.

Green pinstripe discosoma and a stuber stag. Have the red and purple monti caps.
Oh, and the bright pink birdsnest.
Starting to miss all the different shades of brown too, zoas, gorgs etc.
