I have a 125g that already has four holes drilled, and I've been thinking of buying the ghost overflow type of filtration. The problen is the cost of needing two overflows. I think two would be a lot better job rather than one near just one end of the tank.

I just looked at the H2O, and this would simplify my my dilemma, but I want to make sure,.....
that these work as well as the other overflow type, skim well and are quiet !

If you have/had this brand and type, please advise me of your thoughts.

Why do you need two ghosts? It's only a 125 gallon.

Well, it's 6' long and both holes are 15" or so from the corners of the tank, so I don't think one overflow would surface skim the water enough and the in tank water on one side wouldn't be filtered as much.

Although, I wonder if I had a lot of water flow in the tank, mixing it up well, would it matter if the overflow was in the center or on either corner ? If not, the only problem I feel I woukd have, is less surface skimming. I HATE,......greese slicks on the water
surface !!!

The advertisment does state up to 300g. Hum,.......?

"ONLY ONE OVERFLOW REQUIRED FOR AQUARIUMS UP TO 300 GALLONS!"

That looks like it would be loud and hard to tune, not to mention unsafe. I highly doubt you'll get 1500gph through that without a full siphon, which is a very dangerous way to run a system.

People have peninsulas longer than 6' long with a ghost overflow. 6ft is nothing with the overflow in the center back. The whole tank will be surface skimmed no problem. You double up on ghosts when the tank is massive. Since you already have those holes just use then as return lines and drill two new holes for the shadow overflow.

msderganc- it looks very adjustable to me. You can turn it clockwise & counter is needed and up & down.

It has four holes already, two are returns. So you think that one ghost 14" from one corner (my holes are not,....in the center) will skim the surface and remove enough tank water to the sump will be fine ?

It's not very adjustable because it only has one drain pipe. With a Bean-type setup, you have a full siphon which is always a full siphon, and then an open drain which handles the variation in flows. Also, with this system, anything over a trickle of water will be loud, and you have no emergency drain. I think the ghost would be fine, and much safer.

I watched one video that he zoom in, but too hard to tell how loud it was.

Years ago, I had a 2.5" 90 degree elbow with a sponge inside on a 40 breeder and it made a little noise, but not bad. This tank will be a in wall reef, below a 65" TV, backing to a 3rd bedroom that is now a fishroom/office. So, noise isn't as important, but I still want it pretty quiet.

For cost, if one 16" overflow will be fine, I may buy the Synergy Reef Shadow.

I run the H2Overflow on my frag tank. The frag tank only flows approx. 500gph or less. There is some noise. IMO I would Not use this as my only overflow on a DT. IMO you should have at the very least a drain line and one emergancy drain

Well it's not like 4 return lines is bad on a tank. If the holes are nowhere near the middle you can just drill 2 more for the shadow and then use the 4 you got for returns.

I use it on my 50G and I dont hear any noise.

I agree.

Two holes are 1-3/4" and two are 1-1/2", so I need to re-drill one larger to 2-1/2" for the overflow.

I realize this is an old thread but if you pair it with their Stealth Box the problems listed above seem solved as you can create a silent return and have up to 3 H2Overflows involved.
