Trying to figure out how I am going to plumb my new system and was wondering has anyone used penductors? I am planning to set up a 40 gallon breeder with a Quietone 4000 pump with a SCWD or OM Squirt. I am trying to refrain from additional powerheads. Is there a difference between the penductors and educators?

For the people with experience, is there a way to direct the flow of the penductor, or can you only have it directed towards the opposite wall the bulkhead is directed?

I believe that penductor is the brand name for one manufacturer of eductors. They are the same thing.

I have never used them, but have heard other talk about them.

here is what i found
"
Penductors are a smaller style of eductor. Eductors are capable of increasing the output by as much as 5 times the amount of water that is forced through them. A special venturi design is used by forcing water through a small orifice. The suctions is so strong that it draws about 3-4 gallons of water through the unit for ever gallon that is forced through the orifice.

Penductors are 3.875" long x 2.375" wide and should be submerged several inches under water to prevent a vortex. It is best to use a Penductor in conjunction with a pressure rated pump, otherwise the efficiency of Penductor will be reduced. On average, Peductors work best with a minimum flow of 400-500 gph."

here is something else i found (not in the original question i know)

How many Penductors can you use on a pump?

Pump Output | #of Penductors
500 GPH 1
1000 GPH 2
1500 GPH 3
2000 GPH 4

not to worried about the pressure rated pump, it will show significant results nonetheless than not using one.

Thanks Gimili for the info

That was my alternative idea Paul EDIT: Any problems with it?

Only thing I'm worried about is that you can direct the flow of the penductors.

Here's a picture of the Penductor

I love the Flow accelerator. It's like having another powerhead in the tank. It's the same thing as the pic you have. The one from MD just has the flexible locline type of connectors on it also.

Stay away from SCWDs they eat up so much of your pumps pressure it is unreal!
Used one for 1 1/2 yrs until I tried w/o and could not believe the pressure difference.
