My buddy that’s a plumber the other day was here to move my well tank to make more room for new fish tank. He was using PEX tubing for it. As is throughout my house. It was 1” I believe. And I noticed them crimping it together instead of using pvc glue. So I wondered if it was possible to use it for overflow/return plumbing?
Here’s a pic I took of what they were doing with it

I think pex fittings have metal in them, if there are metal free ones it might work.

The PEX connectors I've used have had what I believe is brass in them. It looks like you've used PEX tees and wyes with the metal strap that needs that special PEX crimping tool. That would work as long as it wasn't underwater.

From looking at Home Depot website, they make plastic T’s and elbows. But seems to be limited options. Like on elbows they only have 2 sizes. 1/2” and 3/4”. Welp Nevermind lol

I've used the plastic fittings with the metal crimp ring for quite a bit of stuff, out of water obviously. I've also used the large 1" and 3/4" push fittings for PEX. Some have been in service for 6 plus years.

Crimps do rust so would probably cause a issue in a marine environment even if not submerged and they seem to be doing away with brass fittings Lowe’s Home Depot too expensive anyways try pexuniverse.com ;)

You could use Uponor(wirsbo) fittings with pex pipe. They’re plastic fittings and rings that you expand. The tool needed for expanding the ring is pretty spendy though. Milwaukee makes them. They make fittings that are 2+ inches but again they’re very expensive.
