I re calibrated my refractometer with a standard ive never used before so I'm not sure if its accurate. Anyone use this product? If its correct my refractometer was off 10PPT without effecting my fish or coral visibly, which seems odd.
I use a different calibration solution, but just wanted to add some things for consideration when using any calibration solution.
When calibrating my refractometer I do the following:
1. Place bottle in a nail laquer shaker for a minute or so, otherwise manully shake thoroughly (I got the shaker cheap off Amazon).
2. Pull some solution with a small dedicated pipette to reduce possibilities of accidently contaminating solution.
3. I consider the temperature of tank and solution and try to get them close to each other.
4. When finally calibrating the refractometer, I do 3 readings to make sure they are all matching. I have found that the initial reading is slightly different from consecutive readings on occasion (maybe temp is a factor, but I don't know), but that is the reason I started doing 3 readings in a row just to be sure I get constant results.
