I would like to prevent back siphoning of my return

Siphon breaks are great. You can drill a small hole in the return line in your tank and it will cut the siphon. Just be sure to have it somewhere that it won’t send water out of the tank, as your pump speeds up it may send water out the siphon break until the pressure builds up and the water takes the path of least resistance.Raising your return discharge higher so the siphon breaks, or drilling a siphon break are more reliable ways to prevent back siphon

Check valves are notorious for failing, and aren't great candidates for stopping reef back siphoning
These work better, and are a true union so you can clean the flap - which you will have to do often if you want to rely on the check valve to work
