I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the little biocube skimmer? It's on sale at my petsmart for $32 and I figured I'd give it a try and if it doesn't work I can return it. Just wanted opinions because I haven't bought it yet. It will be for my 20L for the nano in 90 competition.

havent tried it, but read bad reviews there are better hang ons, actually the sea clone they have works well for the money, made by instant ocean. i think its called the sea clone anyway. just know you will have some micro bubbles use a peace of filter sponge on the output that stopped them on my friends 20 gal.

I used one for a while and it pulled some pretty gnarly gunk out... If you can get a air cheap air adjuster ball valve you can dile them in pretty well.. obviously not the best but not to shabby.

It's basically an air pump attached to a wood air stone at the bottom of the main tube. The collection cup is small. Some people get it to work good. It was always filling the cup. I finally switched to a tunze 9002.

Part of me is salty...,

I had one 3 years ago, depending on the water level on my aquapod it pulled wet skim or decent skim. The water fluctuated alot so effectiveness changed. If you have room for a HOB, try Reef Octopus HB-1000. This the best bang for your bucks. More effective and bigger collection cup than the CPR and not as expensive as the JNS HOB. I think its going for around $150 and the pump is external.. so if you're limited with space than use that 'cause some skimming is better than no skimming; however, if you can up it to a HOB than do so..

or..

you can go the DYI route and make that at home with an airstone, air pump, airhose, a DASANI 20 oz. waterbottle, 3/4 - 90 degree barb, and 3/4 elbow barb. about $15-20 in supply cost. stay tune for pics.
