Anyone using Dr. Sochting's Oxydator

I pulled the unit and it is fizzing away and dosing and then returned it to the sump. I have had the O2 probe and ORP on the tank for the last two years connected to my apex so I have lots of data and trends 24hrs a day, so far there is zero impact on ORP or O2.
 
I am not expecting any instant results just simply reporting the data at this point.
 
Holy moly, I ordered the Oxydator in a rush and got the W since my total water volume is 300+ gallons and just received it today. Its huge!

I know the consensus is it probably is more effective in the display but no way this is going in my display. Not just being impossible to hide but the W version floats when the peroxide runs out and I could only imagine the chaos when a giant floating ceramic pot is getting blown around by 2 MP60s and two Jaebo WP40s and goes careening into SPS colonies. [emoji50]

I'm still pretty excited to get this going. I'll just have to find some room in the sump for it.

Didn't you check the dimensions before purchase? Yes, the W is only suitable for a sump but it was designed for smallish ponds rather than an aquarium. That is why I use 2 A's rather than a W.

Yes I had to rearrange a few tings in my sump, but found a nice spot for it. I’m really bad a judging space so I expected it wouldn’t sit where I originally thought it would

FWIW, I actually doubt hydrogen peroxide dosing is burning off organics. Have you ever seen any data that shows an organic decline in a reef aquarium when adding hydrogen peroxide at the doses people use?

Even ozone (a much stronger oxidizer) added to the water does not "burn off" organics. The ORP rise likely comes from oxidizers reacting the with trace metals that are believed to be what is measured by interaction with an ORP probe. For example, any Fe++ is oxidized to Fe+++, and it is the balance of those types of ions interacting with an ORP probe in seawater is is ultimately what is measured. Not many organics are redox active in this sense.

The reduced yellowing is because most colored organics are easily oxidized to eliminate the light absorption, but the organics are still in the water in a more oxidized form.

My understanding, long time user, is that I am not adding / dosing peroxide, it adds oxygen, sorry, I am lacking on the chemistry side of this?

Day 8 no change in ORP or DO no substantiative changes in tank, W unit is dosing away as shown by air in unit chamber, I did mix up a fresh mix of 8.75 % peroxide and replaced in unit today just to make sure it is not a concentration issue. I took one quart of 35% and added three quarts of RO/DI water and mixed.

You are dosing peroxide to the tank water in the device, but the peroxide is not intended to leave the device. Sort of like an ozone reactor then passing the ozone-rich effluent over GAC to remove it.

The peroxide has a chance to react with the water, and then the catalyst breaks down any remaining hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. The tank water may be changed on contact with the peroxide (oxidizing some things, including organics and trace elements), but peroxide is not supposed to leave the device.

I'm looking forward to firing mine up this weekend sometime. I got the W with 35% peroxide sitting at home ready to dilute and use.

What's the recommendation? Around 8%. My tank is 215 gallons, 300 total volume, mainly SPS. Run a large skimmer, giant UV, calcium reactor, GFO reactor, activated carbon, and biopellet reactor.

While I'm not disputing the possibility that peroxide is being released, you cannot see it so how do you know peroxide is released?

FWIW, most people dosing hydrogen peroxide directly to a reef aquarium see a drop (not a rise) in ORP after dosing. I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm not sure I'd expect this method to be different.
 

What do you think that shows?

Are you claiming it shows hydrogen peroxide is released in the liquid drop that was released at the very end?? How do you know what is in the liquid?
