I have a 60 inch Synergy sump. I asked Synergy and they recommended 1/4 inch closed foam or neoprene under it. They didn’t mention it until I asked specifically about it so I’m not sure that it is “required”.

What exactly is “closed foam” and where would I get some locally?

Closed cell foam is made of tiny air pockets and will not absorb moisture. Open cell foam is porous and is often used as filter media.

IMO a layer of foam is useful in protecting the bottom from imperfections in the surface it is on and also helps level out any bumps lumps or dips.

i used a piece of the stuff you line your cabinets with just so it wasnt sitting on the wood of the stand. i have a sapphire 26 and its fine so far.

I use a section of 1/2" neoprene matting meant for a child's play area just to distribute the weight evenly. It's been doing great for about 2 years.

I’ve got bar keepers silicone webbing under mine. The kind they used for drying mugs and glasses. My thought was to help with any vibrations plus I had a bunch of it from a previous project.
