I just put in the most powerful one they make. It's pretty quiet and very small. But they all start out quiet. So far I really like it, and it's very easy to clean and disassemble, so I would give it high marks, but I've only had it running for about 2 weeks. I don't have experience with the controllable ones, which is what you're looking at I think.
I'm running a pair of the Syncra Silent 3.0 in mine. Just bought a 3rd to use in my mixing station and serve as a backup. The loudest thing in my entire system is the water flowing into the filter socks followed by the water flowing into the overflows. I'm sure I can get that dialed in even quieter with a little experience. I have no experience with DC pumps, so I can't compare. I do get a slight noise of vibration, but nothing more than I would expect from two fairly powerful pumps running. I have them in an acrylic sump which sits on a piece of 3/4 ply that I lined with yoga mat.
