Anyone's Sea Urchin eaten a starfish?

I noticed a long time inhabitant of the tank, my red tile starfish, had two digits that looked like they were chewed on. Its been 48 hours since I took the attached pic. Those legs are just about gone. Then I noticed my red serpent star had lost two digits. Now my tile starfish digits are just about gone and the tip of another one is wounded. I've been all over the web reading about this. Nothing seems to make sense. And now I've learned a long spine sea urchin can become aggressive if hungry enough. He's about the only critter in may tank with the hardware to do what I see. Anyone else seen this happen?

Do you test water parameters on a regular basis?

If all of your stars look like this I would be suspect of something other than the urchin causing the problem.

Water parameters all look good and steady. I have two other Stars. One is a tiger serpent and one is a brittle. Both doing excellent. This has been a mystery.

My tile star finally bit the dust. My red serpent is hanging on as of yesterday. But it literally has 3/4 of 1 leg.

I’m thinking that is true as I’ve lost two starfish from being eaten

I can’t say for sure if it’s possible or common. However, like most animals if they are hungry enough I think they will eat what ever they can even if it’s outside there normal diet.
I had a long spine that was fine and alway eating all the algae in my tank.
then I solved the problem that was causing the algae and I noticed the urchin on my montis then white patches where it was.
I don’t know if the urchin was eating them but it looked like it. Could have just been too clean of water and maybe they where starving. This was in the days that ultra low nutrients where common.

I cant help with your starfish exactly but after a few weeks in my tank my long spine urchin ate my clove polyps. so that sucked. Im taking it back today actually. I'm scared for my scully.
