Anyway to test for metals/rust in water?

i have a feeling I may have something rusting in the tank. All signs somewhat point to it. All my quick looks and checks can't find anything. Before going crazy and replaces $80 Vortech heads when nothing may be wrong with them and dismantling frag racks, I'm curious if there is a test to check for it in the water column. Thank you

Triton to get a close idea. Otherwise there are iron test kits. I've never used one so don't know what they test for exactly or how accurate or what kind of resolution they have.

red sea makes kits like their coral color kit I think has iron iodine and potassium but I don't really trust them. The triton test will run about the same price as that kit, and although some don't agree to the validity of the triton test, it tests for many more elements as a side bonus. I have no reason to doubt the triton test especially since the numbers are always dead on with the elements that I can test for.

unique corals sells the test kits in the US. You send your sample out to be tested for 26 different elements.

Yes, they seem pretty accurate with the major elements but some of the trace elements there has proven to be some mixed results but over time still a good indicator.

+1 for Triton. I do a test at least twice a year. Found out the black sand I had was causing aluminum levels and the bland look to my corals. (replaced the sand and all was good)

That's interesting. Do you recall what it did to your Iron levels? Usually the black sands will do that if you run a magnet over it and particles attach it would.

Just ordered 2 kits but got them on Amazon. I assume it will be the same place I send to for testing
