With the impending annual sale on the Apex and associated probes/accessories/etc, I’m trying to build out a list of accessories I’d like to complement the system. I’m thinking a DOS, and the LDK. Any other components I should consider? I’m running a 80g display, a 50g frag tank, and soon to be a 30g nem/clown tank. I’ll probably hook more tanks into the system eventually, but for now, that’s what it looks like.
Thanks!

What do you have already?

I have a redundant auto top off, but otherwise, I’m new to the controller/monitor realm.
Lighting is Reefbreeder Photon V2+, and circulation pumps are IceCap Gyre 1k’s. Return pump is a Sicce SDC 9.0 since the sump is remote in the basement.

I too am looking at the DOS. Had no ide about any sale though.

Flow meter maybe? Fish feeder is useless in my opinion

I think my old one has been on, and in a closet for months. I better check on that!

A LDK for leak detection or flow monitoring, a DOS for dosing and a Trident for monitoring parameters and, if you choose to use it controlled dosing. I have all of these modules and love them. Since you don’t have any Radions or MP pumps you don’t need a WXM module. I also have the feeder and it comes in handy when I end up working late and can’t feed the fish manually.

I’ve been following along with regards to the Trident. My concern there is the lack of flexibility in testing. Isn’t it a predetermined testing interval that you can’t alter? How do you like the unit thus far?
Another way of thinking about it is to answer the question: what do you want to get out of your apex? Tank automation, peace of mind, or just geeking out or combination of all.
Good approach. More than anything, I want to be made aware of something pukes and my livestock is at risk. I have a ton of coral that wasn’t cheap. An Apex seems like a proven notification system. I’d also like to automate some things like water changes with the DOS.

It does have predetermined testing, the least amount of testing is 4 Alk and 2 Cal and Mag daily. At first I was also wondering do I really need that many. Now I have mine up to 6 test daily and having several test daily has opened my eyes greatly. I thought I knew how my tank used supplements throughout the day, man was I wrong. If you plan on adding a Dos and use the controlled dosing then the more test you do the tighter the parameters will be as it can adjust the dosage quicker. I figured with 6 test daily it doesn’t drain the reagents over night and I can still get tight enough parameters. So far I absolutely love the trident, I can start to see patterns in usage, now I can see the relationship in lighting, par, and how it’s effects on parameters. A friend of mine also just hooked up a trident and he is geeking out over it also, lol!

Plus, I have to add that I can be a lazy reefer, testing daily was something I would not do reliable let alone several times daily, this made it easier for me and having sps dominant tank, you really can’t be lazy as I was.

Maybe a couple of FMM modules or breakout box to add waterlevel sensors for skimmer cup, sump level, AWC reservoir etc.

Maybe additional PM module for temp probe either for redundancy or controlling a canopy fan

Possibilities are endless

Trident is on my list - but that is currently a waiting game - however that is fine with me with we’re I’m at with my tank.

My favorite modules:

1. WXM - essential if you have vortech, less so if you don't
2. Trident - works exactly as advertised (not damning with faint praise)
3. FMM - cool sensors and who doesn't want more data

Not so much:

1. PMK - kind of useless and I cannot seem to keep the sensor clean
2. DOS - mine has proven to be glitchy
3. 1link (plugs are flimsy) and WAV (prone to fail and the cords buzz)

Honorable mention to the avast version of the break out box (even if it does require some soldering).
