Hello Dear friends

I am still on the edge to get reefer 350
I red on RedSea website following

Here is my questiosn

if I dont use apex, and a regular dosing pomp, and I program to do it as above , I can overdose because my tank may not need so much dosing if the tank is new, not too many corals correct? so the dosing is just an estimate?

questions 2, so if I get apex, trident and dosing pomp, how does it work? it will keep all dose parameters in range, and add minerals if needed, and wont add, if I am in range? is it what it does?

so the main difference will be apex controlling the dose basing on testing? and no apex ( regular pomp) may cause my water parametres to bee overdosed if I dont test it ?

Appreciate help

For your 1st question, the numbers on the redsea website are a very rough estimate, as you add corals you'll slowly need to increase the dosage. You can find out the amount that you need to dose by testing your water for Mg, Ca and dKh. Moreover, depending on how many corals and what kind of corals, you may not even need to dose at all as regular water changes can take care of replenishing those parameters. For example if you have mostly SPS corals you would need to dose more in comparison to a mostly LPS tank or soft coral tank as soft corals and LPS corals consume less alkalinity, Ca, and Mg.

For your second question: I have the trident, but I don't have a DOS dosing pump so I can't say, but from what I have read, the apex does a fairly good job at keeping the aquarium stable and also has some fail-safes so that the it doesn't overdose.

For your third Question: Like I said earlier, if you find the correct dosage by testing the water your doser won't overdose anything as long as you regularly test your water, your dosages will increase over time as your corals grow and as you buy more corals. I can't say much about the apex dosing with the trident but like I've read, it works fine.

In regard to your first question, you will run into a lot of trouble if you try chasing parameters. The best option would be to add a few frags when your tank is ready and do fairly frequent testing (3-4 times a week) to get a baseline of where your parameters are at. If your frags seem happy then just focus on maintain your current parameters. In some cases you may want to just raise a single parameter but you can cross that bridge when you get there. As you add more coral and you see your numbers decrease that’s when you should start dosing. It’s not so much about the number but more about stability.

I don’t have much experience with the Trident and Dos working together but I have seen some comments from people on here who don’t fully trust it yet. Don’t let that discourage you from getting them though. They’re both fantastic products. I would definitely recommend finding a few people who are actually doing the automatic dosing with the Trident and get their opinion.

Trident will test parameters frequently and disburse what is needed to bring tank to proper levels and therefore DOS would not be required.

hi

I dont understand, don't I need DOS to dose those chemicals?
Trident will test, then it will send signal to Apex , then Apex makes a decision to dose it, but DOS need to dose it, am I right ?

Apex trident can be tricky, make sure to use the reagent , I don’t always trust the numbers I get but I do trust the consistency of those numbers
