Apex and heater question!

My heater has been showing on constantly. My tank is more around 78 F and nothing has died so I’m assuming the heater is not broken. Does this happen for anyone else? I know heaters are supposed to shut on and off not stay on. I wonder if it means the outlet is on…because the blue light on my heater isn’t always on.

Your apex temp probe is reading 75.4, and you have it programmed to turn on the outlet to the heater if temp drops below a certain point (typ 77). That doesn't mean your heater will actually turn on if it has its own controller - just means the controller now has power.

It doesn’t have its own controller it’s plugged directly into the Apex. But it just means the outlet is on/has power right?

Yes, the "on" designation on your apex means it has switched on the outlet on your eb832. So power is now following to whatever is plugged into that assigned outlet.

The heater is also set a little higher. Which I thought it was supposed to be according to the videos I watched. I programmed the Apex to be between 74-76. It’s at 78 so I guess it would make sense. I guess it makes sense though because if it was plugged into a wall outlet it would have power constantly. And my light is always connected and says on but turns and on/off with my lighting schedule.

But most heaters cycle on/off to maintain the temp - not sure what you are using. But for example if that heater broke and stuck to on, the apex would sense high temp and turn off that outlet to heater. Your apex would then show heater to "off"

It’s a Fluval heater and I know the temp is off a little off because the water feels warm and everything else I use to measure the temp. of the water is 78 which isn’t bad. I do like to run my tank slightly below that. I did just adjust the heater a few seconds ago to a little below 78.

You don't want the apex to constantly cycle on/off for heater control. Apex should be always "on"ideally. Unless it has to intervene because there is a problem. If the temp control is set too narrow 77.8 to 78.2 for example, then the apex will become the controller and eventually that socket will stop working on the en832

So I should change the heater outlet to “on” not auto?

And fallback should be off correct?

If you turn it to "on" manually you override the system and the outlet to the heater will stay on even if the heater is stuck on and temperature is going too high
