I have a new apex 2016 and am getting to grips with it. One of the things I’ve done is mounted a series of push buttons in a controller cabinet, wired to a breakout box, with the idea that they control outlets for feeding, cleaning and e-stop modes. Unfortunately it’s not working because the apex takes about a minute to register a button press, and that’s if the button is held down. If I do a momentary button push it doesn’t register it at all. Is there any way of speeding up this response? I also intended a skimmer float switch to be wired in but this slowness would almost render that useless.

The Apex processes each switch and output status once per second, including the breakout box.

How are you determining the Apex response time? If you're looking at the switch status tiles on the Fusion dashboard, be aware Fusion does not show real-time status. There is a delay between 30-60 seconds. Instead, look at your local Apex console which updates nearly instantaneously. Browse to http://apex.local or if you've changed your Apex hostname in the network settings, use your hostname. For example, mine is http://SuncrestApex.local.

Another way to record the response time is to assign an output (physical or virtual) to turn on or off when the switch is pressed, and enable logging on that output. Then look in the output log to see what it did.

If you're new to the Apex, check out my Apex Programming Tutorial series:

Thanks very much! I’ll give it a go - I am looking at the dashboard so will look at the local instead.

Thanks for the guides, I’ll be sure to read each one as although I can program, apex is a different beast with a lot at stake if it goes wrong.
