So Im dealing with the dilemma of keeping my brand new, sealed Apex Classic with a bunch of accessories or selling it and buying the new Apex. I really hate the way it looks and I could care less for the wifi capability. My only concern is that future products won't be compatible with the Apex Classic. Not sure if its worth it, after all we have been waiting 2 years for the COR pump and it still isn't out yet and the Flow sensor just got released to the beta testers, also after 2 years.

What are your thoughts??

All modules are compatible with the classic unit including the one link module that will run the cor pump if and when it comes out. Besides the wifi the 2016 comes with salinity and orp probes and the module is built in versus having to buy it separate. Personally I would stick with the 2016 even if you are not going to use the wifi. But if you don't like the way it looks and want to buy modules go for it but functionality is going to be the same. Guess it really comes down to personal preference and what you want the unit to do out of the box.

After you get your APEX up and running, you will use your WiFi allot. I use it everyday several times a day. Can't imagine running the controller without the WiFi. JME

what do you mean I'll be using the WiFi a lot?

Yep completely aware of all that. I was referencing to future products that have no even been announced yet. I reference the Cor and flow sensors because they were showed 2 years ago and now we are in the beta testing stage so it might be a while before something its released that won't be compatible with the classic. Wifi doesn't matter to me as I have a wired connection for the apex and if I were to get the new one I would still use the wired connection.

I would still wire it into the network as well. The one feature I would like is the power monitoring per outlet on the new 2016. You also get more features in fusion with the new 2016 model and the local web interface looks just like fusion now. Otherwise the classic is proven out and solid.

As a person in the same delima a couple months ago I wish I got the new one. For the other stuff but I asked Terrance the question about future products and the comparability on the old apex and he promised me that everything that is in development right now is backwards compatible. And yea always run a cable to ur apex don't use wifi.

Yea it would be silly for them not to be backwards compatible when some of those products were announced before the new apex came out. However we are already seeing delays. The flow sensors work out of the box with the new apex and for the classic beta testers are waiting for a firmware update that is not yet available.

WiFi to your android device to get things setup the way you want them and tweeting until you find your sweet spots pumps, lights, etc...

Oh you mean to access the dashboard or fusion. I have a wired connection for the apex so thats why I said WiFi was not a big issue for me.

On your classic can you use APEX Fussion?

Sorry you've already got fusion, My bad....

If I upgrade to a new system it would be to the GHL ProfiLux. Way easier to program.

Apex needs to quit making add ons and write simple pull down menus.

This is 2017... You shouldn't need to type in DOS type script anymore for switches. JMO... :)

The Apex does have some simple wizards and menu's to use but I much prefer the programming and can do a lot more with the Apex then I can do with other menu only driven controllers. I actually wish the programming capabilities were stronger and allowed more logic control.
