I've been in and out of the hobby for over 20 years and have never used an apex controller or other system on any of my tanks. I was just wondering what was all out there and what is the best bang for your buck on them.

I bought a used Apex, updated the software on it and love it. I'm tempted to get a newer, shinier one but just can't justify the $800 I would have to spend on it. I like mine just fine even though it's not pretty like the new ones are.

That's the only thing that keeps me from getting one is the price. Also not knowing much about them. Ha...

I had to have a friend come over and help me set it up... show me how to work it. Once I got it online, the Fusion program makes it much more user-friendly. Buying a used one and updating the software makes it good as new as long as all the actual pieces of equipment work on it.

I would have to look online for new or used one. I live in South Dakota and we don't have many pet stores for one and the ones we do have don't carry a lot of saltwater supplies.

The 2016 APEX is actually a breeze to set up. I had some connection issues with my EB832, but if I hadn't I could've had everything up and running within a couple of hours. The nice thing about APEX (I haven't searched much on the others so it may be a standard thing with controllers) is the amount of information you can find online. There is quite a following so chances are, if you run into trouble, someone else has experienced it too and it was a simple fix. I have no prior experience with controllers and have to say I love my APEX. I have barely skimmed the surface of what it can do too. Another great thing about this controller is that you will NEVER outgrow it. I plan to use this thing on any and all of my future tanks.

Thanks for your input.

I got mine from a local hobbyist. There are all kinds of facebook groups for that or even our own selling forums. There's always something on here.

I went from a RKE to an APEX Gold and man what a difference! You can find people here selling theirs for good prices, gives you remote access to your tank and Fusion makes it very easy to operate/configure. I wish I'd gone to APEX to begin with!

I have got the vertex cereba. It's great does what need it to do but vertex is new to controllers they have a ways to go before being anywhere near an apex.
