Hello;

I am considering an Apex Controller system. I have a 2 month old reef tank with 7 fish and 8 corals. I would appreciate advice from seasoned pro's who are using them.

Thanks

i would highly recommend an apex , check out my build thread.
One thing you must keep in mind is it is a system that has failure points so you must still pay attention and occasionally manually test to make sure everything stays in line. by the way any system has failure points including manual testing.

please let me know if you have any questions as I have been using the apex for everything for over 2 years. (not a pro but I think I have perfected my system)

I started by identifying my needs and then got equipment to match. Thus for the first 3 years I had added a basic hydor nano waver maker (and 2 hydor nano pumps) a willfi (alternate to inkbird) temperature controller and a BRS DIY ATO. My RadidLED Coronas. like most lights these days are controlled by their own app.

When I decided I wanted to clean up all that hardware at the plugs, desired some alerts and wanted the feed program (unplugging all those pumps to spot feed was a PITA), I looked at controllers.

The new apex was a dream, but at $1k it had a lot of muscle that I did not need. I was ready to start a DIY ReefPi project (see the tread that @Ranjib has put together with fellow hobbyist), but came across a used complete Apex Classic for $200 in the buy/sell. The classic meets my needs.

The classic can be tricky to set up on a home wifi (it's was designed to ethernet right into your router) , but once you get it set up it's good. It does need to be reset after power outages to connect back to Fusion, but the unit will still run your tank when it powers back up as it saves the settings .

Apex has an entry ApexEL under $500.

I have been reefing since 2008. flooded my floor accidentally many times and back in days there was no fancy lights with build in switches so I was relying on this clock switches. It was a mess! Lol.
so when controller come on the market I didn’t hesitate to get one! To be honest with you for me it is best investment I ever did
