Apex DOS DIY level switch?

Yep, you got it. The cable gives you the Molex connector convenience so no soldering etc needed.

I just wanted to check something- what you are actually doing is connecting wire 4 and 6 together to spoof a DDR- correct? The cable just provides an easy, non-permanent way to make that connection?

Thanks- I might just try a typical .1" jumper first and see if that'll fit on the pins.

edit: LOL, it works. But those pins are not the standard Arduino I was hoping for- I dont like the fit. Will probably just get the molex splitter or something.

I just ordered this cable and cut it in half and taped up the exposed wires. It's a Molex to Molex cable so one cable works for two DOS units...

Glad I found this somehow by accident.

I’m changing more water than most people I’ve seen daily with DOS. have a 44g brute that I empty in a few days so this trick will be great. Ordered the plug and look forward to tracking my brutes.

Boom. $10 cable 4 & 6 wired together and presto. Just need to figure out how to get my OSW container to start at zero. One of my pumps runs in reverse.

when configuring the module, set the volume left to zero on the pump that is going in reverse. Total volume for both is set at max your amount of NSW is.

My configuration:
Container 1 total. 151400
Container 2 total. 151400
Container 1 vol left. 151400
Container 2 vol left. 0

Just reset mine recently so the vol left numbers have changed but you can see how they are changing. Container 2 pump runs in reverse

My dos_new decreases then and dos_old increases on the tile

Ordered a slightly different cable off Amazon since the previous one was requiring import duties. I'll report back if it works..

I plan on cutting the 8pin side off and it is a 2-pack so I have one for each of my dosers..

Remember by adding the optical sensors to this molex plug you get two more ‘switches’ without the use of a break out box

Low cost expansion of liquid sensors and they don’t have to be used on your dosing storage units.

Were you ever able to get those Kamoer Reservioirs working with your breakout box?

Annnnd we have liftoff! Thanks so much for the assistance. One last question in regards to safety. I don't have a soldering iron handy right now, so I just spliced the two wires together and wrapped them up well in electrical tape, then wrapped that bunch and the other exposed wires up in another layer of electrical tape. I'm assuming this is perfectly fine, but then again, electrical was never my strong point, so figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Now that this is working, I'm thinking about getting the $13 Kamoer reservoirs that come with a level float switch and hooking them up through the breakout box to give me full DDR functionality for a whopping total of $40. Thanks again

My optical sensor to APEX IO port adapter board design is now shared. You can buy the PCB at the following link along with the list of items needed to populate it. I am sharing this as long as no one turns around and sells these. If anyone tries to make profit off my design I will pull it.
